Providence St. Vincent Perinatal NICU Expansion

< Back to Portfolio

A 2-phase NICU expansion built adjacent a fully operational Family Birthing Center. Built within St. Vincent’s main hospital tower, this infill expansion converts existing patient rooms to 19 new individual NICU rooms, with a newborn nursery and staff support space.

The project is in two phases to minimize the effect on current patient counts. The project includes new HVAC upgrades and medical gas upgrades. The first phase builds a new well baby nursery and nine of the 19 individual beds. Phase II completes the project with the last 10 rooms being built along with some staff support areas.

The biggest challenge of this project is maintaining fire life safety barriers while upgrading the HVAC and medical gas systems. Other major challenges include maintaining security on an operational labor delivery floor, and getting crews and material on and off the third floor project with little-to-no visibility to patients and staff.
