Portland, OR
This Portland landmark built in 1915 required extensive structural and nonstructural seismic upgrades to make it safe for occupants should a seismic event occur. To seismically upgrade the building Andersen installed steel seismic straps at each floor and the roof to tie the walls to the floor diaphragms. Over 1,000 masonry anchors were installed to firmly attach the brick to the side of the building. New shear walls were added in 4 primary locations. During design, all shear walls were anticipated to be installed on the interior of the building.
